About Us
The principals of our firm, Michael G. Bohn and Armando Y. Aguilar, pride themselves on the fact that all of their work comes to them through repeat clients and referrals. Brief summaries of Mike's and Armando's backgrounds are posted below. If you would like references, we will gladly provide them.
Mike Bohn
Mike’s civil trial practice focuses on a wide array of litigation subject matter. If companies or individuals can get into a legal dispute over it, Mike has probably litigated it in his many years of trying cases since 1989. Mike has successfully litigated cases in a variety of forums, including state and federal trial courts and courts of appeal, as well as in the alternate dispute resolution forums of arbitration and mediation. Mike’s vast and varied legal experience gives him an unusual ability to recognize the issues likely to drive a client’s case and allows him to guide the client through the process with a keen sense of the options available and the pros and cons of each, being ever mindful of the economics of the litigation process. Mike views himself as a civil trial lawyer and, thus, his commercial litigation experience for both plaintiffs and defendants ranges from employment law to construction disputes, from franchise disputes to unfair business practices, from regulatory compliance to insurance defense. Mike is also formally trained in professional mediation practice and theory, and offers his services as a creative mediator to help litigants resolve their disputes early and before the costs of litigation escalate.
Mike has several unreported and reported decisions from the Colorado Supreme Court and the Colorado Court of Appeals, including In Re Tomlinson, 851 P.2d 170 (Colo. 1993) (amicus curiae brief for Adoptees in Search); Gold Messenger, Inc. v. McGuay, 937 P.2d 907 (Colo. App. 1997); Awanderlust Travel Inc. v. Kochevar, 21 P.3d 876 (Colo. App. 2001); Union Insurance Co. v. Hottenstein, 83 P.3d 1196 (Colo. App. 2003); and Leprino Foods Co. v. Feldmeier Equipment, Inc., 2005 WL 3073201 (Colo. App. 2005).
Prior to creating Bohn Aguilar, LLC with Armando in 2007 and being “of counsel” with Martin, Lubitz & Hyman, LLC, Mike was a founding member of the Campbell Bohn Killin Brittan & Ray, LLC firm in Denver, Colorado. In his early litigation years, he was an associate at the well-known firms of Pryor Carney & Johnson, P.C. and Dorsey and Whitney, LLP, an international law firm.

Armando Aguilar
Armando Aguilar
Armando has been litigating and trying cases since 1994. He cut his legal teeth in Chicago and has practiced in Colorado since 1999. With a degree in Architecture (Design) from Princeton University and several years’ work experience in construction management, he is uniquely qualified to defend design professionals (architects, engineers and surveyors) against professional malpractice claims in all kinds of construction projects, in state court, federal court, American arbitration and international arbitration. He also represents design professionals before the Colorado State Board of Licensure for Architects, Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors (the “AES Board”). In addition to representing design professionals, Armando represents homeowners, builders and developers, in litigation concerning residential and commercial construction projects, on claims from defects to contract disputes, lien claims, premises liability, fire loss, delays and boundary disputes. He has also litigated commercial claims such as unfair competition, contract claims, unsuitable investment cases, Fair Credit Reporting Act violations, and civil rights claims. In addition to trial work, Armando argues cases on appeal and he drafts, reviews and negotiates contracts for all sorts of design and construction projects.
Armando has several unreported decisions from the Colorado Court of Appeals, including Johnson v. Freund & Co., Inc., 2007 WL 2390809 (Colo. App. 2007); James A. Harders Individual Trust v. Attorneys Title Guar. Fund, Inc., 2008 WL 5382524 (Colo. App. 2008); James A. Harders Individual Trust v. Attorneys Title Guar. Fund, Inc., 2011 WL 3209883 (Colo. App. 2011); Northstar Project Management, Inc. v. DLR Group, Inc., 2011 WL 1631979 (Colo. App. 2011); and Sopris Lodging, LLC, et al. v. Colorado Land Consultants, Inc., 2016 WL 4923146 (Colo. App. 2016). In the Northstar case, Armando successfully petitioned the Colorado Supreme Court for a writ of certiorari to review the Court of Appeals’ decision (statistically, the Supreme Court denies 9 out of 10 certiorari petitions), and the Supreme Court ultimately reversed the Court of Appeals’ decision for the reasons argued in Armando’s petition (295 P.3d 956 (Colo. 2013)). Follow these links to see the Petition for Writ of Certiorari, the Supreme Court's Order granting certiorari, and the Supreme Court's decision reversing the Court of Appeals. In the Sopris Lodging case, Armando obtained summary judgment on behalf of his client (a civil engineering firm) on statute of limitations grounds, which was affirmed on appeal, and he recovered almost $250,000 in attorney fees and costs from the plaintiffs. In the words of Judge Gail Nichols' written order awarding attorney fees to Armando’s client, "The Court finds that Mr. Aguilar is an insurance defense attorney who represents, and represents very well, defendants in construction defect cases.”
Prior to creating Bohn Aguilar, LLC with Mike in 2007 and being “of counsel” with Martin, Lubitz & Hyman, LLC, Armando worked at Campbell Bohn Killin Brittan & Ray, LLC, in Denver, Colorado, and was an associate at the construction litigation firm of Lee & Associates, PC, in Denver, Colorado.
